SSRPG Yearbook Term 29

Slytherin

Head of House

Professor, or as she prefers to be called Mistress Hecate Lafay, has been teaching Potions at Hogwarts School since 2071, which makes this her sixth year as a Professor and her fifth as Slytherin's Head of House. Professor Lafay managed to balance sternness and fairness with the students, her snakes in particular, most of those years. Most likely the incident in which she accidentally "set some students on fire" gave her more experience with the youngsters.

This term, though, Mistress Lafay opted to be spoken to by students if the latter had 'three freshly plucked owl feathers'. Maybe it was just an attempt of the Professor to keep annoying nosy students away from her office? Well… it probably didn't work since the castle has a huge Owlery open at all times to all students.

Prefects

Evelyn Rose Flores' last year at Hogwarts provided her with a fresh opportunity to lay down the law – or get away with her short temper as some younger students remarked. The Head Girl attended the school since year one and is one of The She-Snake trio known around Hogwarts for six or seven years straight. Now, since there has been quite a lot of confusion concerning the group and what exactly it's supposed to mean, we went ahead and asked the she-snake herself who started her answer with a stare ‘duh!’ followed by some sort of a spiel, "You know, the term 'she-snake' originally wasn't what it is now when it first started being said. It was first used as sort of an indicator to someone, which stated that we were the bad ones; to give us a bad name.”

"However, as time went on and when the name caught on, we were able to turn it around to something to strive for. Being a she-snake doesn't mean that we’re the bad ones to avoid or that we're bullies or whatever horrible thing they think it meant. Everyone can have attitudes, talk the talk, and think they're better than everyone else, but being a she-snake means that we can walk the walk. We strive to be perfect and we are the competition. We aren't here just to end up almost at the top, but we are the top. Being a she-snake doesn't mean taking the easy way out of things, but fighting through until you see the light at the end of the tunnel. That we are loyal, despite what people believe or think we really do. That we have that sisterhood and will help each other to the end, regardless of what we ourselves believe is right, and in the end, we can proudly stand up and say…we did it. We earned it. Being the leader figure that everyone can look up to. You know, there has been a lot of talk, saying that Slytherins are just cheaters and liars, and what I’m saying probably doesn't sound Slytherin at all, but that's just it. Being a she-snake is about combining every house trait to be the best you can be and making sure you're still on solid ground to see reality, and if something looks impossible, you pull out all your tricks and go for it. It really isn't a 'title' you can give just anyone. You have to earn it."

It did seem that the short tempered, straight faced girl grew up to be much deeper than that, even lighthearted? Destiny Shepard, Flores' best friend, was there to verify that fact. After the So-this-is-like-an- interview-and-everyone-is-going-to-see-what-I-have-to-say-in-the-yearbook squeaking she told, "Truthfully, I think what made Evelyn so successful at being Head Girl was that…everyone was scared of her. I'm not even sure why people are scared of her actually. Sure, she may make this face a lot," we were blessed with a pouty face imitation before Destiny went on, "but when has a face ever hurt anyone? I've spent a lot of time around Evelyn and that face of her’s and look at me! I'm perfectly fine. Anyway, I'm not saying that she would have been an unsuccessful Head Girl if people weren't scared of her, I'm just saying that it might have helped a little bit. As for her being a lighthearted cutie girl… she'd probably hex all the chocolate out of me, and that is a lot of chocolate if I said she was cute. So, no. I'll say she is straight faced all the way!"

1. What has been the most rewarding part of being crowned Head Boy?

Err.... Are you interviewing me Luv? Ahem, right…. most rewarding... well, being in the service of my fellow Hogwartians, being there for students and the Professors when they need help or simply if they just wanted to have company, someone to talk to... like that. And I suppose being given the respect of the Head Boy isn’t so bad. It is a nice boost to the ‘ole ego’, especially during those times when I wonder if anyone would even care whether or not I do what I do.

2. What has been your most memorable moment here at Hogwarts since transferring in? Whether it be a personal or school wide moment.

Dang..... most memorable? Does it have to be like just one?

It’s kind of hard to select just one. Since coming to Hogwarts it’s been one great experience after another. I guess being selected for Slytherin Prefect then Head Boy has got to take the cake because I totally wasn’t expecting that. At least that’s as far as greater Hogwarts is concerned. But on a personal level, I think it’s the Tea Party when I dated a certain Gryffindor blonde that’s got to be the most meaningful for me

3. What advice would you give the upcoming Head Boy that steps into your shoes?
Form your team because even if you’re the most talented and most capable student in all of Hogwarts, you won’t be able to do it all alone. Remember that a good idea of one becomes an awesome idea when a group shares into it, makes it grow-- turns it into a reality. Also don’t be a dictator—it’s easy to fall in that trap with this position-- BUT don’t sacrifice your objectives for the sake of trying to keep things democratic. Strike a balance.

4. If you had to choose one... I mean ONE... professor to say has helped you the most on your path to Hogwarts greatness who would that be and why?
Just ONE? Oh man!.... it’s like those Moments, there’s so many to choose from, I feel bad for leaving current and past Professors out. But other than Headmaster Tate, who's kind of a given, I guess the one that made the most impression on me would be Professor Lafay. Maybe because she's my Head of House and I work with her most often, but yeah she kind of gets me you know? I don’t know if that makes sense… Make me sound decent Luv ok?

5. Who inspires you most in your life? Why?
The Hogwarts Elves. No really, have you seen how hard they work?

Of course it’s you, Luv! MY LEXI! MY LIFE and LOVE!!! You make me want to be a better man, as best as I can be. I was pretty contended as a screw up but when I met you…

6. What does your future hold? What grand plans have you got for the future?
Uh, going to go join the family firm I guess, trying to keep my uncle from buying out my mom's shares and cutting her off completely. But you know, given that it’s US too I kind of wanted to go out and do things on our own you know? I mean I’d like to get on in life based on my own efforts. I'm just not really sure what I'm good at.

7. What words of wisdom would you give to upcoming transfers and first years?
Firsties and transferees.... Well first of all, know that you’re the new guy and that you can’t just throw your weight around, so it helps to be.... friendly. Or at least know when to talk nicely and when to keep your big mouth shut. Did you know I nearly got into a smack down with a Durmstrang kid on my first opening feast because he overheard what I called them? Anyways…totally not a behavior I would encourage at all nope.

8. What has been your favorite spot on the campus to just hang out and vegitate? And no you cannot say your common room.
The Kitchens! Because where else can you get hot, juicy steak the size of my head at three in the morning? Not that I was up at those hours-- I was in bed, like everybody else.

9. Which class would you say has helped prepare you for your life outside of Hogwarts more than any other?
Care of Magical Creatures. Seriously-- the Ministry should re-classify those Dugbogs and put them in the same category as the Acramantulas. If those things really want to eat you they won’t stop! I still have the scars. So yeah when I find my own place I’ll make sure to stay far away from anything that remotely resembles a twig.

Oh Arithmancy too, because those number crunching exercises really helped, I can do MATHS in my head now. Really that matters a lot when you’re at the race track-- I mean when you have to do.... GROCERIES! Yeah!

10. Knowing that you were a Slytherin; what attributes from the House of Slytherin will you surely carry with you through life?
A lot of what we were told about being Slytherin is that we are the House where the Great come from. I realized that ambition, big statements and proud history mean nothing if you don’t have anything solid to back it up with. So if there’s anything I learned from being its Prefect is that as Slytherins we have to motivate ourselves to meet our objectives and to keep at it until the very end-- until we’ve actually achieved it. So yes that involves dedication, it involves a lot of hard work, a lot of thinking smartly so we don’t end up wasting time and energy, and most importantly, not being discouraged and giving up when things are looking pretty bad for us. If anything, that should be used to spur us onwards and upwards.
Of course it’s you, Luv! MY LEXI! MY LIFE and LOVE!!! You make me want to be a better man, as best as I can be. I was pretty contended as a screw up but when I met you…

Quidditch

1. If you were a broom, what broom would you be and why?
I would be the Nimbus 1700. Not because of anything really, but come on—1700!!! Oh how I loved the 1700s... you know, when people had something called CLASS. Is my sweet fascination of this RIVETING era destroying this wonderful interview?! But yes, I would be the Nimbus 1700 because its model name brings back the memories of my nonexistent past life...

2. How hard was it to choose your team this term?
UGH. Very frustrating. Unlike last year, a lot of people actually tried out for the team. Everyone was really fast and I didn't know how I could pick only ten out of all those people. Quite a tear-jerking scene but as Napoleon said, "Nothing is more difficult, and therefore more precious, than to be able to decide."

3. Were you nervous when you got the news that you were the new Captain?
Not at all. I am what you call an opportunist. I don't really think this Captain thingy is all official and stuff, even though it is. For now, it's merely a play and I am the lead role and all my ladybugs on my team are the supporting cast. Wait can we take that out?

4. What's your favorite part of working with your team?
HELLLLLOOOOO DRESS UP. They're my dolls. I have all authority to do anything to them (otherwise they wouldn't even be on the team!) I haven't dressed anyone up since the first couple of practices and my plans for ruffley costumes for official matches never broke through, but THANK YOU FOR REMINDING ME. Didn't you love dress up? I'm sure you did. You should try out again next term because I have big, BIG surprises.
